The Power of His Word

It had been a week filled with a stomach virus. My daughter had stayed home from work Monday and Tuesday, we stayed home from church Wednesday evening and I was home from work Thursday with my son who was sick, one child had who attends the in home daycare where I work had stayed home with this stomach virus. Now it was Friday and it wasn’t getting any better - my boss was in bed sick, another child had stayed home from daycare and we sent three more home in the first few hours of the day. And I could feel it creeping up on me. My body ached, I was lightheaded, the beginnings of nausea were stirring in my stomach. I had no time for this! My other co-worker was leaving early that day which meant I was basically the last man standing and things had to go on.

The day before I had been reading the book Shut the Hell Up by Terry Tripp. The title sounds suspect I know but the book is about shutting Satan and the forces of hell up with the Word of God. The Bible tells us that the Word is alive and powerful and it also says that His Word does not go out and come back void. In this book Terry Tripp points out that all too often we like to talk about our problems when really we should be talking to them. We should be informing our problems of the power of His Word instead of informing everyone around us of the power of our problems.

So I decided to apply what I was learning to this problem. First I rebuked the sickness in Jesus Name. Sickness never comes from God and there is no reason for me to simply accept it. I began to look up verses from the Bible about health and healing and apply them to my situation. I didn’t tell anyone what was going on and continued on with my day as best I could given the way I was feeling. And slowly, throughout the morning, the symptoms faded away. I was able to finish the work day and then go home and enjoy our Friday night tradition of pizza, chips and a movie with my kids.
It may seem like a small thing, or a coincidence but I know that God is interested in every detail of our lives and I know that it is His pleasure to show us how much He loves us. And He loves when we apply His powerful and living word to our lives and then give Him the praise and glory for that power and life.
